Lava Flows pre-Conference field trip (May 29-30)

Please join us on a special pre-conference field trip to the lava flows of Kilauea Volcano, near Hilo, on the Big Island. Registration is limited to the first 17 to sign up. The trip's guide is a USGS expert on the flows.

The price of the trip includes transportation, meals, snack foods, and the overnight hotel room in Hilo. Also included are the following supplies: day pack, canteen, bandana and leather gloves.

Tentative schedule:

Friday, May 29
10:30 am Leave conf. hotel in Kona, drive to Hilo
1:00 pm Check into Hilo Hawaiian Hotel
6:00 pm Dinner at hotel
Saturday, May 30
6:00 am Breakfast
6:30 am Leave hotel for lava flows
Noon Box lunch
5:00 pm Dinner at nearby Volcano Golf & Country Club
7:00 pm Return to Kona

Requirements: Must be able to walk 5 miles. In addition to the included supplies, participants must wear long pants, boots, and socks. We recommend participants also wear foul-weather clothing, sunglasses, and a visor/hat.
